General of Threaded Unions

MSS SP-83 Threaded Union is an active pipe connection fitting with the feature of easy for assemble and disassemble. It can be widely used in different diameters pipeline connection, and the connection of meter and valve with pipe line. Generally, a complete union shall consist of three parts: male end, female end, and nut. The two ends connect two pipes and the nut connects the two ends like a coupling. It is forged with round steel or ingot and then lathed into shape. It connects pipes by threads and includes internal thread type and external thread type.

Forged steel threaded union is the most common type in industry. It primarily used for maintenance and installation purposes Threads make pipe connection easier and economize the cost.

Standards of Class 3000 Threaded Union

MSS SP-83 is the standard of threaded union. In addition to that, ASME B16.11 threaded union is another choice. The different between this two standards is that they developed and approved by different organizations and ASME B16.11 is for forged steel fittings while MSS SP-83 is for class 3000 unions only.

MSS SP-83 Threaded Union are common used in small diameter pipes and pressure is tacitly 3000lb for general purpose industry applications. However, Class 6000 Union is common for high pressure applications.

It can be provided in all standard metals or combination of metals. Stainless Steel 316 Threaded union has beautiful appearance, good corrosion resistance and long service life. ASTM A105 Threaded Union is economical and has great strength and hardiness and can withstand high temperatures and pressure, but is also susceptible to corrosion. A182 F22 Threaded Union NPT has light weight, good heat resistance and high impact resistance.

Coating is important for carbon steel because it improve the corrosion resistance. Carbon steel threaded union can have longer service life with Anti rust oil or galvanized surface.
